Gabe Murphy: Gym Owner, PT, DPT, CSCS, CF-L1 Trainer
I started CrossFit in a basement with a bunch of priests, not the traditional start for sure! I joined a CrossFit gym when I moved to Montana in 2012 looking for friends and community after moving to a new place not knowing anyone. I got my level 1 certificate about a year after joining that gym and coached for almost three years before opening Hellroaring CrossFit in 2016.  I started working as a PT when I moved to Montana and love the overlap of PT into CrossFit and the compliment of my PT skills and knowledge with my CrossFit coaching and training.

I got tricked into CrossFit by a friend who said we were going to a personal trainer for 'small group sessions'. That was in 2012 and I haven't looked back. I always assumed I wasn't tough enough for CrossFit and even after years of CrossFit I never thought I would be a CrossFit coach or do a competition and I have done both, so expect the unexpected with CrossFit! It's where I met my life partner and love Gabe, it's where I learned to truly love myself.  It's made me a better, faster runner, and fitter than I have ever been but it's also made me more confident in myself in every aspect of life.

My CrossFit journey started in North Dakota in early 2015 when a friend convinced me to attend a class after personal training lost its appeal. I walked into CrossFit Bismarck (CFB) on March 23rd for an introductory class, came back the next day March 24th - on my birthday - crazy, I know) for another intro class and signed up the following day, March 25th. I didn’t just drink the CrossFit kool-aid, I straight up had an IV of it. I competed in my first CrossFit competition roughly six months later and the rest is pretty much history. CFB is where I built the best family and gained an incredible community that I couldn’t live without. Nearly 14 months into my CF journey, my husband and I moved home to Montana where I found myself without a CF community for about six months. Right before the CrossFit Open of 2017, I reached out to Hellroaring CrossFit with the hopes of participating in the Open at their gym. I walked in and was immediately overwhelmed with the thought of, ‘yep, these are my people, this is my gym, I am home’.  Fast forward, I’ve now completed three CF Open seasons at HRCF and don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. I also had the opportunity to take my CF-L1 and am now a certified CrossFit trainer at HRCF. None of this would have been remotely possible if it weren’t for the encouragement of my fellow coaches and athletes. I am most proud of the community and family we have built at Hellroaring CF.
